Georgetown Pharmacy was opened for business April 1, 1974 by Dennis Hendershot, R.Ph., F.A.C.A. and Darrel Corson, R.Ph.,
F.A.C.A. as a full-service traditional "drug store". The two
pharmacists had two years earlier purchased the Fairway Pharmacy in Shawnee
Mission, Kansas, USA. In 1976 they purchased their third pharmacy, Spring Hill
Pharmacy in Spring Hill, Kansas, USA.
In 1978 Georgetown Pharmacy was equipped with a laminar flow hood housed in
a pre-filtered, positive pressure, ventilated laboratory. This is believed to
be the first sterile products laboratory in a full line retail pharmacy in the
United States. Since that time the staff of Georgetown Pharmacy has been
providing patients with intravenous solutions and other sterile products.
In 1979 the Spring Hill Pharmacy was sold and in 1982 the Fairway
Pharmacy was merged into the Georgetown Pharmacy.
In 1986 Georgetown Pharmacy was expanded to the Georgetown Health Care
Center. An organization of health care professionals which offers a wide range
of home and institutional health care products and services.
In 1990 Darrel Corson sold his interest in the pharmacy to the Hendershot Family.
Darrel Corson died December 2009.
In November 1998 the Linn's Pharmacy, which was located in an adjacent
medical building, was purchased and merged into the Georgetown Pharmacy
location.
In October 2001 the Courtney Pharmacy, which was located in the
Georgetown Medical Building was purchased and merged into the Georgetown
Pharmacy location.
In January 2006 the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, who several years
earlier had purchased the Georgetown Shopping Center, tore down the shopping
center forcing Georgetown Pharmacy to move. Georgetown Pharmacy moved
from 9338 W. 75th Street to a new location at 5605 Merriam, Kansas.
